Database App Development

Interfaces and workflows built around your business data, searchable, secure and usable by everyone, not just IT.

Old database retiredJust now

Database app development NZ businesses need is rarely about the database. The data exists, in Access, FileMaker or a server only IT can query. This page is for the manager who wants a custom database application that puts that data in front of the people who use it, searchable, secure and in a browser.

The problem

data only one person can reach

  • Everything sits in an Access database on the office server, unreachable from outside the building.
  • If a manager wants a list, they ask the one person who can write a query, then wait.
  • A member's renewals, payments and complaints sit in separate tables, so nobody sees their history on one screen.
  • Searching for a customer means knowing exactly how their name was typed, and it still takes a minute.
  • Every Monday someone exports three tables to Excel and spends the morning building the same report.

What Superstack builds

database app development around your data

Good business database software starts with the data, not the screens. We work out what you store and how the records relate, design the database properly, then build the interfaces around it so each role sees the data it needs.

Example workflow

The audit tells us what you hold. We design the schema with you. Interfaces come next, one role at a time, so people start early. Data is imported in bulk, with the exceptions reviewed by your team. Reports run on their own, your team is trained on their screens, and the old database goes read-only, then retires. You sign off each step.

Integrations

Access, FileMaker, SQL Server and CSV files supply the existing data at import. After that, your accounting software receives invoices and returns payment status, Power BI and Excel connect to the live data, and Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 handle sign-in.

Any system with an API connects. Click a logo to visit them.

Add AI when it actually makes sense

AI is optional, and a well-designed database is useful without it. Read how we use AI and where it fits in business process automation.

Web app, mobile app and customer portal

Web app

The office and managers use the web app for everything: searching, updating records, running reports and setting up views. It replaces the Access forms and runs in any browser.

Mobile app

Staff in the field use a phone app for the records they touch: an inspector updating an asset, a technician logging a sample, a volunteer checking a membership.

Customer portal

Members, owners or students log in to see their own record or download a certificate, which takes those calls off the front desk. All three read and write the same database.

FAQ

A mainstream relational database, hosted in the cloud rather than a file on a PC. We name the exact product in the proposal. What matters to you is that it is widely supported, any developer can work with it, Power BI and Excel connect to it directly, and it grows with your records.

Yes. Most of this work is to replace Access or FileMaker with a web app. We read the existing file, map every table and field to the new schema, migrate a test copy for your team to check, and run the final import. Old forms and reports come back as screens.

Larger than any file-based database can, and larger than most businesses ever produce. A properly designed relational database handles decades of records without the slowdowns of a desktop file. We design the schema and indexes for the volume you expect and test with a full copy of your existing data before launch.

As many as you have. A database web app has no file lock and no per-user licence, so everyone with a login works at the same time and sees each other's changes straight away. Roles control what each person sees and changes, so the whole team gets in without everyone seeing everything.

With a login per person, role-based access, encryption, and a log of who changed what. Backups run automatically and are stored apart from the live database, and we test restores. Hosting is managed, with security updates applied for you. Your data stops being a file anyone with the password can copy.

Yes. Power BI connects directly to the database, or to a reporting view we set up, so dashboards refresh on their own instead of from a weekly export. Excel users get exports from any list or report, and an analyst who wants a live connection gets one. The Monday export ritual ends.
