Android App Development

Android apps for customers, staff, contractors and field teams, including rugged devices, scanners and locked-down company phones.

Support and updatesJust now

Superstack builds Android apps for the places work actually happens: the warehouse floor, the van, the site with no signal. It is Android app development NZ distributors, trades and facilities teams use to run scanners, rugged handhelds and locked-down company phones from one app, with the office watching.

The problem

mixed phones, no signal

  • Our crews carry whatever Android phone they bought, and the app must work on every one.
  • We bought rugged handhelds with built-in scanners, and the off-the-shelf app ignores the scanner.
  • Company phones are for the job app, but staff end up watching videos.
  • Google Play pulled our last app over a policy notice nobody read, and the crews lost it.
  • Half our sites have no signal, and the app just spins until the driver gives up.

What Superstack builds

Android app development for the field

Every build starts with the devices in your hands, not a design. Scoping, backend and support are on our mobile app development page. Everything here is Android in the real world.

Example workflow

After scoping comes the device audit: you send us the make and model of every handheld and phone, and we test the scanner, camera and battery before designing anything. After the build, a few of your crew use the app on real jobs through an internal testing track. When they are happy, managed Google Play pushes it to every company device overnight.

Integrations

Your accounting software receives invoices when a job closes and sends payment status back. Stripe takes payments at the door. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 handle staff sign-in. Twilio texts customers an arrival time. Inventory and job systems connect via API, so a warehouse scan updates office stock.

Any system with an API connects. Click a logo to visit them.

Add AI when it actually makes sense

AI is optional. We add it when it removes a step for the person holding the phone. See how we use AI and business process automation.

Web app, mobile app and customer portal

Web app

Dispatch and the warehouse office run the web app: assigning runs, watching scans and check-ins arrive, and managing the device fleet. It works in any browser, with nothing to install.

Mobile app

Drivers, technicians and guards carry the Android app on a company handheld. It scans, takes photos and signatures, and works offline. An Android tablet app for business counters runs the same code.

Customer portal

Customers track a delivery in the browser portal, sign for it and download the paperwork. Portal, web app and handhelds share one database, so a truck scan reaches the customer.

Build options

FAQ

The ones you own, confirmed at the device audit. We support the Android versions still receiving security updates, and older handhelds when they matter, such as a warehouse scanner stuck on an old release. Android app developers NZ businesses hire should ask for the device list first, and we do.

Yes. Kiosk mode, set up through managed Google Play, locks a company phone to your app and hides everything else, browser and settings included. Calls and the camera still work if you allow them. A supervisor unlocks a device from the web admin when it needs attention and locks it after.

The camera, for a few scans an hour, such as a technician checking an asset tag. A dedicated scanner, for hundreds a shift, because it reads faster, from further away and without lining up the shot. Many teams mix both, and the app handles either, so you decide per role.

Google checks the listing and the app against its policies, and most of the review is automated. What trips business apps up is background location, which needs a clear in-app explanation, and an accurate data safety form. We prepare both. A company-only fleet on managed Google Play skips the public listing.

Almost all of it. Scanning, forms, photos, signatures, the job list and check-in run from data stored on the device, and sync catches up once there is coverage. The only things that wait are live lookups against another system, such as current stock, and the app says so rather than spinning.

Yes. The same app installs from the public Play Store on a personal phone, with a work profile keeping company data away from personal photos. Company handhelds stay locked down through managed Google Play. We test on the cheapest phone anyone on your team owns, because that one breaks first.
